Check out the three new boys! Clicking on their name brings up a page all about them. I "liberated" them from Walmart a couple of days a go. They are starting to perk up and recognize me!

Alvin is by far the smartest. He figured out my feeding regime in a day! I always feed my fish in the right-hand corner of their tanks. (and I do this because I can tell if the fish are hungry when they go to that area and shimmy around) Day 2 of living with me, Alvin goes to the right hand corner when it's feeding time. I am so proud of him and wish him a speedy recovery! I am not sure if it's because of his fin rot, but he is a very slow and mellow guy. He's the first betta I've had that doesn't swim around a lot! I have his tank at 80 degrees now, and he is eagerly eating pellets, blood worms and granules. I hope he perks up!

Steel is very beautiful! When he was languishing in a cup, he looked to be a dark blue and black. Since he's perked up and his beautiful colors have come out! He is a silvery blue color, and has white on the bottom of his chin and ventral fins. All beauty aside, Steel is a crazy fish! He spent most of the day trying to swim through the glass to the (fishless)tank beside him. I have since put a blue piece of paper there as a visual barrier and it has mellowed the behavior. He has only eaten a couple pellets so far. He seems to get so stimulated when I'm in front of the tank he doesn't look to the surface for food to eat :( He just swims around and around! So far he's only sampled the pellets.

Caspian is a bamf. He flares at anything and everything in the tank. If a snail is in a different spot than an hour ago, he will flare at it. When I put food into the tank, he flares at it before he eats it. I observe him frequently, and he seems to do a little patrol around his tank before and after resting.

They are beauties!!! You know, when I rescued Cesar, he did not eat well for me at first. He seemed very nervous and yes, he flared at everything! I hope yours do well!!!

Here's some updates: Caspian is starting to build a bubble nest!

Steel has eaten a little bit, and has had a bowel movement (yes!). I think Alvin's nubby dorsal fin has repaired a little too. Alvin is definitely swimming around more, and looking alive instead of depressed/listless!

The boys are great! Their tanks have received an overhaul with new mossy driftwood and anubias plants for resting on. No more fin rot and Alvin's fins look a lot longer than they first did. One day I accidentally moved a 1-day-old baby guppy into his tank. It was hitchhiking on the plant from another tank! Alvin ate the poor baby in the blink of an eye. He's deceptively aggressive!

They all eat consistently now! So far Caspian is the only one who blows a bubblenest, and he does this only occasionally. Steel still swims a LOT all day long. He's so ridiculously active, I'm suprised he hasn't blown his fins out. I am considering moving him to my 10 gallon fry tank, just so he can have the extra room.

Steel is definitely a tail biter >< I got him some more stimulation and plants to occupy him/help him feel safe. We'll see if this fixes his issue :(

Very nice even though this posting is a year old just visiting here today I know they'll do so much better with you than where you found them. I have a few 10's and 2 5's I have began setting up as a way to start saving a few I have seen in bad shape.
